ACCA Standard - Restoring
the Cleanliness of HVAC Systems
As a long time member of the Greater Houston, Texas,
and National chapters of the Air Conditioning Contractors of
America (ACCA), Power Vac America is proud to be associated
with an organization that considers Indoor Air Quality and HVAC
System cleanliness important enough to write a standard for
HVAC contractors. The ACCA standard shares many of the
standards published by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA).
The Restoring the Cleanliness of HVAC Systems
standard was developed by ACCA to provide useful, explicit and
workable guidelines that will provide contractors the ability to
differentiate themselves based on additional services provided and
establish performance criteria for all reputable contractors.
The standard defines minimum procedures and
practices to:
-
Determine when airside surfaces should be cleaned
and when they should be replaced.
-
How to clean the airside surfaces within HVAC
systems.
-
How to control the spread of contaminants which
may be release as a result of the HVAC cleaning process.
-
Verify the cleanliness of the HVAC system.
The standard also helps establish a framework for
providing better Indoor Air Quality. While following the standard
might not resolve all Indoor Air Quality issues, it can definitely
be a major remedy and helps a contractor demonstrate that
industry-accepted options to rectify a system’s poor IAQ and poor
performance are being followed.
HVAC systems are complex to dismantle and
reassemble. This limits the number of qualified individuals who can
appropriately access the internal components. Simply cleaning the
ducts without properly addressing the other system components may
have little or no impact on improving the overall HVAC efficiency or
IAQ problems. The standard addresses this important fact.
This standard, developed and supported by ACCA,
should encourage you to take a more aggressive role in actively
seeking to keep your customers health, comfort, and Indoor Air
Quality problems in mind.
Again, we are proud to be a member of ACCA and
working with all of the ACCA contractors and both the ACCA and NADCA
standards.
