ACCA "System Cleanliness"
Standard Approved by ANSI
Air Conditioning Contractors of
America (ACCA) has announced that its new standard on "Restoring
the Cleanliness of HVAC Systems" has been formally recognized by the
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a national standard.
According to a news release by ACCA,
The System Cleanliness Standard was developed to establish minimum
criteria for the cleaning of HVAC systems that require cleaning
activities beyond those performed in normal HVAC maintenance and
servicing.
The standard has incorporated many
of the standards published by the National Air Duct Cleaners
Association (NADCA), but the standards are more procedural based.
The standard is intended to restore the cleanliness of HVAC systems
and outlines the following procedures:
Establishing Criteria for HVAC
System Cleaning
HVAC System Restoration Protocol
Post Cleaning Verification
Post Cleaning Products and Usage
According to the standard, the need
for cleaning may arise when the HVAC system operation has resulted
in the buildup of debris which may adversely impact the indoor
environment and performance of the system. In those cases, the HVAC
system will require cleaning activities beyond those performed in
normal HVAC mechanical maintenance and servicing. This Standard has
been created to: Significantly improve the cleanliness of an HVAC
system and return it to a reasonable serviceable condition; but, not
necessarily to return the system to an as new condition. Allow
the contractor and/or owner to determine if replacing certain
components of the HVAC system, or possible replacing all of the HVAC
system, is a more feasible approach versus undertaking associated
cleaning activities.
We are extremely glad to see ACCA
recognize the need and benefits of HVAC system cleaning. We
incorporate these standards and guidelines with our current
standards. Between the NADCA standards and the ACCA standards, we
exceed the minimum requirements of both organizations.
